Founded in 2012, Voto Boricua is a call-to-action, and our challenge to the Puerto Rican Diaspora to get organized and stay informed on issues that affect us. Through education, registration and participation, we can galvanize more than 4.6 Million Boricuas in the Continental United States and our Latino counterparts which make up 50.5 Million of the total U.S. Population (Source: U.S. Census Bureau)
Voto Boricua is a tribute to the historic and continued contributions the Puerto Rican Diaspora has made in molding the socio-political landscape of our nation. Puerto Ricans have been a critical component in every aspect of American Society from defending United States soil from the start of the 20th Century to becoming an economic and political force to be reckoned with.
Puerto Ricans continue to inspire the American Fabric with pioneers like the Hon. Sonia Sotomayor and Hon. Nydia Velazquez, first Latina/Puerto Rican to be confirmed to the highest court in the nation and first Puerto Rican to be elected to U.S. Congress, respectively. Our success in the political spectrum is a result of deep-rooted ambition, drive, and pure “orgullo” resulting in our community empowerment.
Through the National Puerto Rican Day Parade (its 3 Million spectators and 120,000 marchers), we intend to maximize voter awareness and voter participation at every parade-related event leading up to the largest demonstration of Puerto Rican pride along Fifth Avenue, on Sunday, June 10th. This is an opportunity to (re)engage the Puerto Rican community and proactively get involved in decisions that affect our quality of life from education, health, public safety, and the environment, just to name a few.
We aim to become the nation’s leading entity in registering and engaging a new generation of Puerto Rican voters as a true demonstration of our presence and potential; no easy task but indeed a very necessary one.
